I cannot say I was an avid reader, but I knew it existed and I did read the occasional one and probably „half got“ the joke. Nevertheless I an sad to hear of its passing. It is like seeing the destruction of an industrial cooling tower, the empty space is frightening when its gone because it signifies „there is no need for it anymore“. Really, I think we need Alex’s view on things (see below, the poignant obituary and the last cartoon):  

Raising a coffee to you Alex, respect for your long service, diligence and cutting razor sharp humour and most of all „Thank you,“ as the genius of humour should be treasured.
