Last Wednesday night down at the club, Rick and I played a Command and Colors Ancients game, as a warm up for our Battle of Cannae participation game at Little Wars Canberra on 12 November 2017. The scenario was the Battle of Ilipa 206 BC with Scipio in Spain, taking on Hasdrubal. This was an interesting scenario with the Carthaginians up against it, with only a single commander and four cards, while the Romans had two commanders and six cards.

Rick and his board game mates played it recently and the Carthaginians came back from a 6-1 victory banners deficit to win 7-6! Our game wasn’t quite as dramatic but proved to be surprisingly close, before the Romans pulled away at the end to win 7-5. One highlight for the Carthaginians was when Scipio was killed on the Roman right flank. Thanks to Rick for another fun game. It will be interesting to see how the Battle of Cannae scenario plays out at Little Wars, as neither of has played it before and the Carthaginians have the advantage with six command cards to the Romans four.
