Today, a return to the theme of the Hobbits and their ways to celebrate. I used this entry:

• Two archaic models of halflings from the 80’s from Games Workshop, which previously „bathed with paint“ and painted anew.
• and a great terrain element from my friends from Grabblecast. This time it is a dog and a kennel. What I can say about this KIT is great details and wood sculpting. Many producers could learn such beautiful sculptures. I hope that it will appeal to a few people as a part of the terrain on the battle table.

And now…

We get a lot of information about the Hobbits in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, but of course not everything. Many details are in the notes of Master Tolkien, in various studies made by his son, and we can only guess the details.
I wrote some time ago about the Pipe Smoking Day, which hobbits like very much, and now I invite you to the next part – A New Year.

      The year of a small people, like our people, lasts 12 months, and each of them lasts exactly 30 days.
Up to 360 days a year, 5 more days are added so that the same date will be the same every day. Two of these additional five days fall on the New Year celebrations.
Humans and hobbits celebrate this event in the middle of winter, and the elves start the spring.

       Already two weeks before the end of the year, the hobbits are overwhelmed by the writing of letters. All Shire and not only, feels for the local post office and postmen working there. 
Three days before celebrate, all groceries disappear from taverns. The little people bake large amounts of cakes, cookies, squares and other delicacies.
       In the vicinity of Hobbiton and Over Water, yeast buns with dried fruits reign supreme, and in Bree, stuffed pies are all sorted.
In Western Quarter, the hobbits of the first day of holidays is known, which should be tasted as much as possible of cheese. The neighbors visit each other, helping themselves with this delicacy and making wishes. It will provide us with prosperity and happiness in the coming year.

       Snowfall in Shire is not intense. They are moderate from year to year and do not make the hobbits have a headache or communication problems. They are rather a reason for having fun (especially for the youngest).
       What is still similar in the celebration of people and hobbits is the custom of decorating holiday trees.
It is said that the first Holidays trees came to Shire through the Dunedains, and that custom at the beginning only accepted at Bree, after which he took over the whole country. Holidays trees are decorated mainly in gardens and constitute a beautiful colorful declaration. It has often been accepted that the neighbors compete with each other for a more beautiful dress of a holidays tree, inventing every other decoration. A certain hobbit in the North Quarter even came up with the idea of lighting the night tree into a string of small candles.
The unfortunate not only burned the Christmas tree completely, but it did not save half of the garden because of the fire caused in this way …

Dziś powrót do tematu Hobbitów i ich sposobów na świętowanie. Użyłem do tego wpisu:

• Dwóch archaicznych modeli niziołków z lat 80 tych od Games Workshop, które uprzednio „wykąpałem z farby“ i pomalowałem na nowo.
• oraz znakomitego elementu terenu od moich przyjaciół z Grabblecast. Tym razem jest to psiak i buda. To co mogę powiedzieć o tym ZESTAWIE to wspaniałe detale i rzeźbienie drewna. Wielu producentów mogłoby się uczyć tak pięknych rzeźb. Mam nadzieję, że spodoba się kilku osobom jako element terenu czy „przeszkadzajka“ na stole bitewnym.

A teraz…

Dużo informacji na temat Hobbitów otrzymujemy we Władcy Pierścieni oraz w Hobbicie, ale oczywiście nie wszystko. Wiele szczegółów znajduję się w notatkach mistrza Tolkiena, w różnych opracowaniach czynionych przez jego syna, a innych detali możemy się tylko domyślać.
Pisałem już jakiś czas temu o Święcie Fajkowego Ziela, które to hobbici lubią bardzo, a teraz zapraszam na kolejną część – Nowy Rok.

       Rok małego ludu, podobnie jak u nas ludzi, trwa 12 miesięcy, a każdy z nich trwa dokładnie 30 dni.
Do 360 dni w roku dodaje się jeszcze 5 dni, aby za każdym razem danego dnia wypadała ta sama data. Dwa z tych dodatkowych pięciu dni przypadają na Świętowania Nowego Roku.
Ludzi i hobbici obchodzą to wydarzenie w środku zimy, a elfowie zaś z początkiem wiosny.

       Już 2 tygodnie przez końcem roku hobbitów ogarnia szał pisania listów. Całe Shire i nie tylko, współczuje lokalnej poczcie i pracującym tam listonoszom. Dodać do tego trzeba także załadowane przesyłkami kuce, z trudem przemierzające trakty i dróżki.
Trzy dni przez świętami znikają z karczm i szynków wszystkie artykuły spożywcze. Mały lud piecze wtedy wielkie ilości ciast, ciasteczek, placów i innych smakołyków.
W okolicach Hobbitonu i Nad Wodą królują babki drożdżowe z suszonymi owocami, a w Bree wszelkiego rodzaju nadziewane paszteciki.
W Zachodniej Ćwiertce znany jest zwyczaj z pierwszego dnia świąt, którego należy skosztować jak najwięcej gatunków sera. Sąsiedzi odwiedzają siebie nawzajem, częstując się tym przysmakiem i składając sobie życzenia. Zapewni nam to ma pomyślność i szczęście w nadchodzącym roku.

       Opady śniegu w Shire nie należą do intensywnych. Z roku na rok są umiarkowane i nie przyprawiają hobbitów o ból głowy czy kłopoty komunikacyjne. Są raczej powodem do dobrej zabawy (szczególnie dla najmłodszych).
       To co jeszcze jest podobne w świętowaniu ludzi i hobbitów to zwyczaj ozdabiania choinek. 
Mówi się, że pierwsze choinki przybyły do Shire za sprawą Dunedainów, a zwyczaj ów z początku przyjął się tylko w Bree, po czy  ogarnął cały kraj. Drzewka świąteczne przystraja się głównie w ogródkach i stanowią piękną kolorową deklarację. Przyjęło się często, że sąsiedzi rywalizują ze sobą o piękniejszy ubiór choinki, wymyślając co rusz inne dekorację. Pewien hobbit w Ćwiartce Północnej wpadł nawet na pomysł oświetlenia nocnego drzewka w sznur małych świeczek.
Nieszczęśnik nie dość, że doszczętnie spalił choinkę, to jeszcze nie uchronił połowy ogródka przez spowodowany w ten sposób pożar…
