Today, it is full of terror and madness. One of my favorite horror writer,the master from Providence, H.P. Lovecraft, the creator of the so-called Cthulhu mythology. It is also one of the forerunners of science fiction. He has had a huge impact on literature, film and even music. Characters from stories about Cthulhu have come into pop culture every day.

       And this gentlemen, through his prose, will receive an honorable place on DwarfCrypt as a source of inspiration. To today’s entry I have prepared a special figurine named by me, the Dark Emissary. I painted it in the mood of Grim, Dark and Blanchitsu. This will be the first model from the cycle prepared for the dark AoS28 and Inq28 varieties.

And now the dark star of the day, Nyarlathotep. According to Lovecraft, the messenger of the Outer Gods (Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth, Shub-Niggurath). It is also said that he is their soul and as one of the few Higher Beings he is interested in the human race.
Long ago, it was foretold, perhaps in an ominous Necronomicon, or perhaps by another one forgot that Nyarlathotep would come and kill humanity.
It does not have a permanent appearance, but it can take many form (including a human form). As a dark figure, he does not have his own face, but uses 999 masks.
He is also known as Black Pharaoh, Crawling Chaos, Black Man, Masked Messenger and many, many more.

„And it was then that Nyarlathotep came out of Egypt. Who he was, none could tell, but he was of the old native blood and looked like a Pharaoh. The fellahin knelt when they saw him, yet could not say why. He said he had risen up out of the blackness of twenty-seven centuries, and that he had heard messages from places not on this planet. Into the lands of civilisation came Nyarlathotep, swarthy, slender, and sinister, always buying strange instruments of glass and metal and combining them into instruments yet stranger. He spoke much of the sciences – of electricity and psychology –and gave exhibitions of power which sent his spectators away speechless, yet which swelled his fame to exceeding magnitude. Men advised one another to see Nyarlathotep, and shuddered. And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished; for the small hours were rent with the screams of a nightmare“.

Most of the Outer Gods have their own cults serving them; Nyarlathotep seems to serve as He serves several cults and takes care of their affairs in the other Outer Gods‘ absence . Most Outer Gods use strange alien languages, while Nyarlathotep uses human languages and can easily pass for a human being if he chooses to do so. Finally, most of them are all-powerful yet evidently without clear purpose or agenda, yet Nyarlathotep seems to be deliberately deceptive and manipulative, and even uses propaganda to achieve his goals. In this regard, he is probably the most human-like among the Outer Gods.

The wanderer can be found in the following works by H.P. Lovecraft:

• In a short poem entitled name „Nyarlathotep“. As a magician from Egypt, he deprives people of souls.
• „In search of the unknown Kadath“ is a messenger of Other Gods and wants to stop the main character from reaching the title Kadath on their behalf.
• „Dreams in the witch’s house“ is a Black Man who, at all costs, tries to take Walter to the throne of of Azathoth. Nyarlathotep’s relationship with the witch rituals is also shown there.
• And many, many others…

       In a 1921 letter to Reinhardt Kleiner, Lovecraft related the dream he had had – described as „the most realistic and horrible [nightmare] I have experienced since the age of ten“ – that served as the basis for his prose poem „Nyarlathotep“. In the dream, he received a letter from his friend Samuel Loveman that read:
„Don’t fail to see Nyarlathotep if he comes to Providence. He is horrible – horrible beyond anything you can imagine – but wonderful. He haunts one for hours afterward. I am still shuddering at what he showed“.

Dziś powieje grozą i szaleństwem. Jednym z moich ulubionych pisarzy grozy jest mistrz z Providence, H.P. Lovecraft, twórca tzw. mitologii Cthulhu. Jest również jednym z prekursorów fantastyki naukowej. Wywarł ogromny wpływ na literaturę, film a nawet muzykę. Postacie z opowiadań o Cthulhu weszły na co dzień do popkultury.

       I właśnie ten jegomość, za pośrednictwem swojej prozy, otrzyma zaszczytne miejsce na DwarfCrypt, jako źródło inspiracji. Do dzisiejszego wpisu przygotowałem specjalnie figurkę nazwaną przeze mnie Mrocznym Emisariuszem. Pomalowałem ją w klimacie Grim, Dark i Blanchitsu. Będzie to pierwszy model z cyklu przygotowywanych z myślą o mrocznych odmianach AoS28 oraz Inq28.

A teraz mroczna gwiazda dnia, Nyarlathotep. Według Lovecrafta jest posłannikiem Bogów Zewnętrznych (Azathotha, Yog-Sothotha, Shub-Niggurath). Mówi się również że jest ich duszą i jako jedna z niewielu Wyższych Istot interesuje się rasą ludzką.
Dawno temu zostało przepowiedziane, może to w złowieszczym Necronomiconie, a może przez innego zapomnianego , że Nyarlathotep nadejdzie i zgładzi ludzkość.
Nie ma stałego wyglądu, może zaś przyjąć wiele postaci (również postać ludzką). Jako mroczna postać nie ma własnej twarzy, posługuje się natomiast 999 maskami.
Znany jest również jako Czarny Faraon, Pełzający Chaos, Czarny Człowiek, Zamaskowany Posłaniec i wiele, wiele innych.

„I wtedy własnie Nyarlathotep ujawnił się w Egipcie. Kim był- nikt dokładnie nie wiedział, chodziły jednak słuchy, że płynie w nim prastara, egipska krew i wygląda jak faraon. Fellachowie padali przed nim na kolana, choć sami nie wiedzieli czemu. Powiedział, że wynurzył się z otchłani mroku dwudziestu siedmiu stuleci oraz że słyszał wiadomości spoza planety…“

       Większość z Zewnętrznych Bogów jest wszechpotężna, ale nie działają w określonym celu czy porządku. Nyarlathotep natomiast, wydaje się celowo wprowadza innych w błąd i manipuluje, a nawet wykorzystuje propagandę, by osiągnąć swoje cele. Pod tym względem jest prawdopodobnie najbardziej ludzki wśród Zewnętrznych Bogów.

Wędrowca znajdziemy w następujących utworach H.P. Lovecrafta:

• W krótkim poemacie zatytułowanym jego imieniem „Nyarlathotep“. Jako wywodzący się z Egiptu sztukmistrz, odbierający ludziom dusze.
• „W poszukiwaniu nieznanego Kadath“ jest  posłańcem Innych Bogów i w ich imieniu chce powstrzymać dotarcie głównego bohatera do tytułowego Kadath.
• „Sny w domu wiedźmy“ jest Czarnym Człowiekiem, który za wszelką cenę próbuje zabrać młodego Waltera przed tron jednego z bogów- Azathotha. Jest tam także ukazany związek Nyarlathotepa z rytuałami czarownic.

       Jego wspomnienie znajdziemy również w wielu innych utworach mistrza z Providence. W liście z 1921 roku do Reinhardta Kleinera Lovecraft zrelacjonował swój sen, który opisał jako „najbardziej realistyczny koszmar, jaki przeżył od dziesiątego roku życia“. Posłużył on za podstawę poematu „Nyarlathotep“: „Nie stchórz, gdy zobaczysz Nyarlathotepa, jeśli przyjedzie on do Providence.
