Today’s entry will be devoted to one of the most interesting figures of female warriors, with the small merit of the broadcasted by Vikings series.

Thanks to the courtesy of HQ of Polish Wargamer, producer of the known and popular By Fire and Sword wargame and such an interesting project as Anno Domini 1666, I received for review and painting one of the models from the Wargamer’s Hot & Dangerous series.

They are very charming ladies in costumes of all significant years of military and epochs in the history of the world, additionally carved with an admixture of Pin-Up.

According to the topic of the entry I have prepared for you a model stylized as a viking woman.
The main features of the model:

• Made of white metal,
• Height: 28 mm,
• It consists of six parts: body, hands, shield, coat and base,
• It is perfect for collectors and players, eg SAGA games.

My main impressions are more than good! Figures are made very nicely, with attention to the smallest details. An additional advantage is their Pin-up design, which will appeal to every collector.

Lagertha (or Lathgerta as written about her in the Latin media) is most commonly associated with Ragnar Lodbrok’s wife. Interestingly, there is no talk about her in Ragnar Saga, and Saxo Grammaticus, the Danish chronicler of the twelfth century, is the main source for warriors. According to the author:
„Lagertha was a hardy warrior, endowed with a male temperament hidden in a girlish body, and battled with the cursed curls of the bravest of men.“

         Ragnar, when saw such a wonderful woman, fell in love. Lagertha was initially not a skin for Viking courtship and even more a marriage. When she finally invited him to her home, she reportedly tied the wolf and bear to the porch of her house to protect her from the suitor’s greed. The plan of the young warrior women was not successful. Ragnar defeated the „guards“ and took Lagertha for his wife.
Following the mentioned Saxo Grammaticus, the heroine was the first wife of a famous Viking with whom had a few children and with whom survived 3 years. Then, in the sadness of too much of Lagertha’s warrior disposition, their paths were divided.
          
As they say, „The mountain with the top will not go down, and the man with the man will.“ A few years later Lagertha set out with her second husband and fleet of 120 ships to help Ragnar and his threatened kingdom. With this help the Viking have preserved life and land. Old love never dies? Maybe yes.
After returning from the expedition, our warrior kills the second husband, and he claims his titles and wealth to rule on his own.

       More or less reliable, the next fate of our heroine can be seen in the Vikings series on the HISTORY channel. The end of the 5th season is approaching and Lagertha is facing the biggest challenge …

A teraz…
Lagertha (lub Lathgerta jak pisano o niej w łacińskich przekazach) tożsama jest jako żona legendarnego wikinga Ragnara Lodbroka. Co ciekawe, w sadze o Ragnarze nie ma o niej mowy i główne źródło traktujące o wojowniczce to Saxo Grammaticus, duńskiego kronikarza z XII wieku. Według autora:

„Lagertha była biegłą wojowniczką, obdarzona męskim temperamentem, ukrytym w dziewczęcym ciele. Do bitwy stawała z z opuszczonymi na ramiona lokami przed najdzielniejszymi z mężczyzn“.

       Ragnar, gdy ujrzał tak wspaniałą kobietę – zakochał się w niej bez pamięci. Lagertha początkowo nie była skora do zalotów ze strony wikinga i tym bardziej ożenku. Kiedy w końcu zaprosiła go do siebie, wedle przekazów, do ganku jej domu przywiązała wilka i niedźwiedzia, aby broniły jej przed zapędami zalotnika. Plan młodej wojowniczki się nie udał. Ragnar pokonał „wartowników“ i wziął Lagerthę za żonę.
         Podążając za wspomnianym Saxo Grammaticus, bohaterka była pierwszą żoną znanego wikinga, z którym miała kilkoro dzieci i z którym przeżyła 3 lata. Potem, w skutek zbyt wojowniczego usposobienia Lagerthy, ich drogi się rozeszły.

         Jak to mówią „Góra z górą się nie zejdzie, a  człowiek z człowiekiem tak“. Kilka lat później Lagertha wyruszyła wraz z drugim mężem i flotą 120 okrętów na pomoc Ragnarowi i jego zagrożonemu królestwu. Dzięki tej pomocy wiking zachował życie i ziemie. Stara miłość nie rdzewieje? Być może tak. 
Po powrocie z wyprawy nasza wojowniczka zabija drugiego męża, przywłaszcza sobie jego tytuły i bogactwa aby rządzić samodzielnie.

       Mniej lub bardziej wiarygodne, kolejne losy naszej bohaterki możecie poznać w seriali Wikingowie na kanale HISTORY. Zbliża się końcówka 5 tego sezonu i Lagerthę czeka największe z wyzwań…
