Republican Roman: TRIARII CHARACTERS (Agema Miniatures) #1

Republican Roman: TRIARII CHARACTERS (Agema Miniatures) #1

I warmly welcome!

I invite you to post on behalf of two Roman soldiers from the Republic period from
AGEMA MINIATURES today.

Once upon a time in 2015, I don’t remember whether I bought or received these models from the manufacturer, but I was eager to paint. The end result, looking at the old photos, was far from acceptable. Therefore, after almost 7 years, it is time to renovate.
I repainted everything – leather, armor (I put NMM on bronze elements, as I have been doing for several years on my antique figurines) and changed the bases. Free hand shields.

The first two repaints will give rise to my little group of Republic Romans, more specifically the Punic Wars to the Clash of Spears

What more about the miniatures?
They are metal and will be a nice diversion for a prepared plastic army.
The first model on the left is no longer available for sale, so I can call it a rarity.
Responsible for the sculpture: Matthew Bickley.

Triarii (Latin tertiary, singular triarius) were legionaries in the Roman republican legion fighting in the third line of manipulators.
The oldest (from about 30 to 46 y.) and the most experienced veterans were the reserve line, which was introduced into the fight mainly at critical moments (hence the saying res ad triarios venitthe case came to the triarii or the case reached the third rank and is a synonym of a difficult situation) .

The first records of Triaria date back to the First Punic War (264 – 241 BC) during the naval battle at Cape Eknomos in 256 BC.

Their armament differed from the armament of the hastati and principes (about which in the future) they had a 3 m long spear (hasta) in place of two javelins (pila), which made their fighting methods similar to Greek hoplites. In addition to the triarii spears, they were equipped with gladius (short double-edged sword) and scutum (shield), elements characteristic of all types of legionnaires.
Their protective armament mainly consisted of chain mail (Latin lorica hamata), a Montefortino or Apulo-Corinthian helmet and, with time, less and less used greaves.

The triarii disappeared from the Roman republican legion in the late 2nd century BC, when the armaments of the Roman legionnaires were unified.

Witam serdecznie!

Free hand’owe tarcze.

Pierwsza przemalowana dwójka da początek mojej małej grupie Rzymian z okresu Republiki, ściślej Wojen Punickich do Clash of Spears.

Pierwsze wzmianki dotyczące Triarii sięgają czasów I wojny punickiej (264 – 241 przed Chr.) podczas bitwy morskiej koło przylądka Eknomos w 256 r. p.n.e.
