Workplace report – March 2018

Es ist an der Zeit den März zu rekapitulieren. Auch wenn ich lieber etwas zu einem weiteren „Museumsbesuch“ geschrieben hätte, denn da liegt ja auch noch so viel herum. Und das wäre vielleicht ergiebiger für Euch gewesen. Aber dieses Themenfeld wird evtl. beim nächsten Beitrag wieder beschritten. Ansonsten stand der Monat ganz unter dem Stern von „Kings of War“.

It is time to recapitulate March. Even if I would rather have written something for another „Visiting a museum“-part, because there is so much material around. And that might have been more productive. But this topic may be taken up again at the next post. Otherwise, the month was completely under the topic of „Kings of War“.

Wie Ihr im Eingangsbild sehen könnt, habe ich im vergangenen Monat nichts bemalt. Das hatte verschiedene Gründe. Eine der Hauptursachen war wohl fehlende Motivation, aber das nicht alleine. Ich las wieder mehr und konnte vom großen (ungelesenen) Bücherstapel zwei Bücher als gelesen ins Regal sortieren. In Sachen Figurenhobby widmete ich mich, wie schon erwähnt, „Kings of War“. Links unten im Bild sind die letzten Figuren für ein Jäger der Wildnis-Regiment. Wenn diese fertig gestellt sind, dann habe ich alle mir verfügbaren Figuren für diese Einheit bemalt. Nach Rücksprache mit meiner jüngsten Tochter entschied diese jedoch, dass ich lieber Baumkrieger bemalen sollte. Also klaubte ich alle Figuren die ich hatte hervor und machte mich an die (mühselige) Arbeit sie zusammen zu bauen. Ich verwende für diese Einheit Figuren aus drei verschiedenen Produktionslinien zweier Hersteller. Dabei nahmen sich Games Workshop und Mantic nichts. Bei beiden waren die Klebestellen eine Qual! Zu erkennen ist, dass ich die ersten sechs grundiert (Premiere war für mich ein anderes Spray als Schwarz oder Weiß zu nutzen!) und auch die ersten Najaden-Verstricker grundierfertig gemacht habe.

As you can see in the Picture above, I did not paint anything during the last month. That had different reasons. One of the main reasons was probably the lack of motivation, but that not alone. I found back to literature and could sort two books from the large pile of (unread) books into the shelf. As far as the miniature hobby was concerned, I dedicated myself, as already mentioned, to „Kings of War“. At the bottom left of the picture are the last miniatures for a Hunter of the Wild-Regiment. When finished, I have painted all available miniatures for this unit. However, after consulting my youngest daughter, she decided that I should rather have to paint Forest Shamblers. So I picked up all the miniatures I own and went to the (laborious) job of mounting them together. I use minatures from three different production lines of two manufacturers for this unit. Neither Games Workshop nor Mantic was/is better. In both the splices were a pain! It can be seen that I primed the first six (premiere was for me to use a different spray than black or white!) and also prepared the first Naiad Ensnarers for priming.

Einen weiteren Grund weshalb wenig ging, seht Ihr auf diesem Bild. Ich habe mir von einem Freund dessen 3D-Drucker ausgeliehen und wollte ausprobieren wie es sich damit arbeiten lässt und ob ich damit zurecht komme. Es handelt sich um einen Anet a8. Eines kann ich behaupten: Wir werden wohl keine Freunde! Die Handhabung ist (in meinen Augen und für meinen Geschmack) recht unübersichtlich und man muss sich schon einige Zeit mit dem Gerät beschäftigen um Ergebnisse zu erzielen. Plug and Play ist nicht gegeben. Von der Geruchsbelästigung (wir konnten nicht feststellen woher sie rührte) ganz zu schweigen. Interessant war es mich damit zu beschäftigen, doch dieses Gerät fällt vermutlich nicht in die engere Kaufentscheidung. Allerdings ist der Preis von ca. 140 € (Lieferung aus China) äußerst verlockend.

You can see in this picture another reason why there was so little output. I borrowed a 3D printer from a friend and wanted to try out how it works and if I can handle it. It is an Anet a8. One thing I can say: we probably will not be friends! The handling is (in my eyes and for my taste) quite confusing and you have to spend some (much) time with the device to get to results. Plug and play is not given. Not to mention the smell nuisance (we could not tell the origin). It was interesting for me to deal with, but this device is probably not in the tighter purchase decision. However, the price of about 140 € (delivery from China) is extremely tempting.

Für den April kann ich Euch wieder mehr versprechen. Etliche Figuren sind schon – zum Zeitpunkt an dem ich diese Zeilen schreibe – bemalt und der Monat ist noch nicht vorüber. Nur komme ich momentan leider nicht zum Spielen, denn meine potentiellen Mitspieler haben keine Zeit. Aber das Jahr ist ja noch jung!

I can promise you more output for the „April workplace report“. Several miniatures are already painted – at the time I write these lines – and the month is not over yet. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to Play because potential players do not have time. But the year is still in the beginning!
