Workplace report – November 2020

Leider hänge ich im Moment etwas mit meinem Blog hinterher. Das gefällt mir zwar nicht, lässt sich allerdings nicht ändern. Evtl. kann ich in den nächsten Wochen etwas aufholen. Von daher: mit vier Monaten Verspätung präsentiere ich meine November-Ergebnisse. Wie man sieht, gar nicht so schlecht! Und darüber hinaus mit einer Neuheit in Sachen Spielsysteme. Dazu später mehr!

Unfortunately, at the moment I am lagging behind with my blog. I don’t like that, but I can’t change it. Maybe I can catch up a little in the next few weeks. Hence: I am presenting my November results four months to late. As you can see, not that bad at all! And also with a novelty in terms of rule systems. More on that later!

Nachdem ich mit den Anglo-Dänen im Oktober fertig wurde, dachte ich mir, dass es an der Zeit ist, mich auch wieder den noch ausstehenden Normannen zu widmen. Es fehlt mir zwar auch noch ein SAGA Punkt berittener Krieger, doch ich wollte es zuerst einmal langsam angehen. Es wurde schließlich der Champion meines Kriegsherrn. Die Figur ist von Conquest Games, der Mantel dürfte aus der Chaosbarbaren-Box (6. Edition) von Games Workshop sein und das Schilddecal von Schildschmie.de.

After finishing with the Anglo-Danes in October, I figured it was time to get back to the remaining Normans. I’m still missing one SAGA point of mounted warriors, but I wanted to take it slow first. It eventually became my warlord’s champion. The miniature is from Conquest Games, the coat should be from the Chaos Marauders-Box (6th edition) from Games Workshop and the shield decal is from Schildschmie.de.

Hier nun eine Figur, bei der ich sehr zwiegespalten bin. Ich wollte für meine Normannen, aber auch die Anglo-Dänen, noch einen Barden und bin in meinen Figurenbeständen auf diese Miniatur gestoßen. Sie ist von Black Tree Design aus dem Saxon Kings Set. Sie gefällt mir sehr gut, allerdings ging mir der Mantel komplett daneben. Ich werde den wohl nochmal bemalen – evtl. die ganze Figur. Vorerst lasse ich sie aber erst einmal so.

Here is a miniature that I’m very divided on. I wanted a bard for my Normans, but also for the Anglo-Danes, and came across this miniature in my miniature collection. It is from Black Tree Design from the Saxon Kings Set. I like it very much, but the coat went completely wrong. I will probably paint it again – maybe the whole miniature. But for now I’ll leave it like that.

Abwechslung! Genau das brauchte ich. Noch dazu wollte ich endlich daran gehen, die letzten noch ausstehenden Geländestücke für SAGA (Scharmützel-Variante) zu beenden, die in Einzelteilen schon lange hier herum lagen. Und mit diesem großen Waldstück kam ich dem wieder einen Schritt näher!

Variety! That’s exactly what I needed. In addition, I finally wanted to finish the last remaining pieces of terrain for SAGA (skirmish variant), which had been lying around here for a long time. And with this large piece of wood I came one step closer to that!

Und hier die nächste Abwechslung. Das letzte Mal, dass ich etwas anderes als historische Figuren oder Fantasyminiaturen gemalt habe, war ewig her. Im Sommerurlaub habe ich mich mit einem alten Freund unterhalten, mit dem ich vor fast 30 Jahren in die Hobbywelt eingestiegen bin. Dabei kamen wir auf „Battle Tech“ zu sprechen. Quasi unsere alte, erste Liebe. Das eine Wort gab das andere und eh ich mich versah, stieß ich im Internet auf die STL-Druckdateien von Dutzenden BattleMechs. Und so bin ich daran gegangen die Geister der Vergangenheit zu wecken. Ihr seht hier einen Vindicator VND-1R: einer der Kampfroboter die meine (ur-)alte Spielergruppe auf dem Spielbrett und im Rollenspiel gesteuert hat. Mit den Kantenakzenten tue ich mich noch etwas schwer, doch die Folgefigur sieht schon erheblich besser aus. Ob ich je mit den Figuren spielen werde, steht in den Sternen, doch wenn, dann vermutlich mit dem Regelwerk „Alpha Strike“. Wobei? Ich habe festgesellt, dass auch nach 30 Jahren der Großteil der „alten“ Battle Tech-Regeln noch sitzt. Ausgedruckt habe ich sie im 15mm Maßstab. Also recht groß für das Spielsystem.

And here’s the next change. The last time I painted anything other than historical figures or fantasy miniatures was ages ago. On my summer vacation I talked to an old friend with whom I entered the hobby world almost 30 years ago. We came to talk about „Battle Tech“. Our old, first love. One word led to the other, and before I knew it, I came across the STL print files of dozens of BattleMechs on the Internet. And so I started to awaken the ghosts of the past. You can see a VND-1R Vindicator here: one of the combat robots that my (very) old group of players controlled on the game board and in role play. I’m still a bit difficult with the edge accents, but the following BattleMech looks a lot better. Whether I will ever play with the characters is in the stars, but if I do, then probably with the „Alpha Strike“ set of rules. But after all? I’ve found that even after 30 years, most of the „old“ Battle Tech rules are still in place. I printed the Miniature out in 15mm scale. So quite big for the game system.
