Today I would like to tell a little about the history of Gnomes in European folklore.
Gnomes, creatures similar to Dwarves and Kobolds. And I could end it, because … gnomes have never been in legends and myths 🙂

       In the XV century, a physician, charlatan and alchemist known under the pseudonym Paracelsus invented the gnomes as a manifestation of the Earth Elemental. There is nothing about hooded dwarves, miners and treasures hidden deep underground. These Elementals turned into stone after contact with the sun’s rays.
Known for fantasy, today’s gnomes, is the invention of nineteenth-century writers. At that time, the American Nathaniel Hawthrone in the collection Twice-Told Tales from 1837 determined that Gnomes are creatures similar to dwarves and have since become regular visitors to fantasy works.

Dziś chciałbym Wam opowiedzieć trochę o historii Gnomów w folklorze europejskim.
Gnomy, czyli stworki podobne do Krasnoludów i Koboldów. I na tym mógłbym zakończyć, ponieważ… gnomy nigdy nie występowały w legendach i mitach 🙂

        W XV wieku pewien lekarz, szarlatan i alchemik znany pod pseudonimem Paracelsus wymyślił gnomy jako manifestacja Żywiołu Ziemi. Nie ma nic o zakapturzonych krasnoludach, górnikach i skarbach schowanych głęboko pod ziemią. Ów Żywiołaki zamieniały się w kamień po zetknięciu z promieniami słonecznymi.
Znane z fantastyki, dzisiejsze gnomy, to wymysł XIX wiecznych pisarzy. Wtedy też Amerykanin Nathaniel Hawthrone w zbiorze Twice-Told Tales z 1837 roku określił, że Gnomy są istotami podobnymi do krasnoludów i stały się od tego czasu stałymi bywalcami utworów o tematyce fantasy.
