Everything all the time at once
I had a little brain fart today.
I was wondering why everything feels so overwhelming. Well, the simple fact is: because it is. If you’re into the hobby these days there are so many ways to interact. Discord servers, Facebook groups, YouTube channels, patreon, Kickstarter and and and…
Back in the day (early 2000s) there was none of that. YouTube started in 2005, Facebook 2004 and they where light years away from what they are today. Plus not half as many people really where online all of the time.
We had forums, blogs and maybe a community page. That’s more or less it. Most of my information about new stuff came from the lads and lasses from the local gaming club and the FLGS.
Discussion where had in the gaming club forum. Threads without end. But it was one or two places. It was manageable.
Today you can read about the hobby everywhere. Or listen to podcasts. Or watch videos. It’s a flood of information.
For the last few months I tried to keep up with multiple forums and I failed spectacularly. It’s just not doable. So I now must decide on where to read and interact with people regularly. That also means leaving other places.
Currently I have 25+ discords servers that I’m part of. Impossible to keep track of.
So how to choose on where to stay and where to leave?
Any ideas?
